When it comes to talking about climate change, Daniel Goleman thinks, “we need to shift from the negative, from scaring people about this, to encouraging them to do something about it.” One way to encourage people to do something about their carbon footprint is to introduce them to the idea of the carbon handprint. While a carbon footprint is combination of the negative impacts one’s action has on the environment, a carbon handprint is all of the positive things one does to affect their footprint. The goal is to grow your handprint larger than your footprint.
