Congratulations to Johnson Matthey for their entry ‘Gas heated reformer development and commercialisation’, which won Industry Project of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering at the IChemE Global Awards 2016.
The project follows 20 years of research, and has enabled Johnson Matthey to implement and scale up a gas heated reformer (GHR) for use in a world-scale methanol flowsheet. The GHR enables the incorporation of renewable electricity which, when compared to a conventional methanol plant, has provided a step-change in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, capital cost, and natural gas consumption.
