Is the electrical industry ‘Qualified’ for safety in the same way we require workers to be qualified? NFPA 70E provides a definition for a “qualified person” and requires that only qualified workers perform work involving electrical hazards. However, the fact remains that in many aspects, the electrical industry as a whole, is not supportive of a safety culture.
In this NFPA Live I’ll present examples that demonstrate how, as an industry, we have yet to adopt safety on the same level as energy efficiency and functionality. Work practices have come a long way in just the last 20 years; we must look at design and installation practices as well.
